Google’s New Apple TV Alternative — The Latest Chromecast — Costs Only $35

Yesterday Google announced the newest iteration of it’s streaming media device, the Chromecast. The latest version costs just $35, comes in a variety of colors and is very small compared to other streaming options from Apple, Roku and other manufacturers. It works with just about anything including iPhones, iPads, Macs, PCs and of course Android devices. With the new Chromecast your phone acts as the remote. It also allows you to cast content to the bring screen and discover content you’d like to watch. With the new Chromecast you’ll have access to over 200,000 TV shows and movies, 30 million songs and other content like radio, sports games and more.

Google is clearly going after the lower end of the streaming devices market here (not to say that this is a low-end product; it’s packed with features and looks very polished). In every way it the result of the Google team trying to accomplish what the new Apple TV does in the cheapest possible way. The phone is the remote, for instance, there’s less computing power and, obviously, there’s a huge different in pricing.

Personally I plan on getting the new Apple TV for my main TV in my living room and the Chromecast for all other TVs. I definitely, unquestionably and absolutely like it better than any Roku products at the moment (Roku ...
