Loca: the best idea for a journal app I’ve seen

I like the idea of journaling but I like the idea of automatic journaling far better. Journaling is something everyone should do. Here’s a great article from The Art of Manliness that explains how and why to start a journal for more on that thought. But journaling is normally time consuming — and that’s exactly why most people don’t save a few moments at the end of the day to reflect on their experiences. That’s why I’m so interested in the launch of Loca, an automatic place journal.

Loca automatically tracks where you go throughout the day and marks those places on a map (don’t worry privacy wonks, you can delete your history — or just not go places you wouldn’t mind people knowing about). Additionally, Loca tells you how much time you spent at each place and gives you a breakdown of how many places you’ve gone (daily). You can see a graph of those places (and the time spent there) in both daily and weekly views and you can also get a simple and straightforward list of the places you’ve visited (sans map).

The cool part is that you can then attach a photo (or photos) to those locations later on which effectively cuts the amount of work required to journal down by maybe 25-50% depending on what you want to remember....
