Now there are a lot of articles out there that will tell you to start by turning off background app refresh. Okay, we’ll instead of doing that, let’s do something even better…

If you’re running the latest version of iOS your iPhone, you’ve got a Low Power Mode which “temporarily reduces power consumption”. Well it does that by, you guessed it, disabling background app refresh. But it also takes things a bit further by turning off mail fetch, automatic downloads and some of your phone’s visual effects. So if you’re going to do one you might as well do them all at once with the flick of a switch.

Normally users get a notification about entering Low Power Mode when they hit a 20% charge BUT there’s no reason you can’t turn Low Power Mode on before that. Like, right when you wake up.

If you just don’t have enough of a charge to make it through a typical day (of if you’re going to be traveling, for instance), just turn on Low Power Mode sooner than later by going into Settings > Battery and then switching on Low Power Mode. Or you can tell Siri to do it for you.

But if that isn’t enough — if you’re really desperate for more battery life — you can also turn off notifications and location tracking. ...
