4K TV Prices Are Falling FAST (As In 55% Cheaper Than January)

Hey, I’m Chris. I wrote this article and I’m also the founder and Editor of DailyTekk. Lets connect on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube. Check back daily!

I was disappointed to read in the Wall Street Journal recently that Apple has apparently given up on making an actual Apple TV set and will instead be sticking to the Apple TV console (perhaps with the addition of a paid streaming cable alternative). Okay. So that’s life. Apple didn’t feel like it could make a 50″ TV compelling and amazing enough to charge $1,500 for.

But all is not lost—as I revisited a a post titled The 6 Best 4K Ultra HD TVs for the Ultimate TV, Movie and Gaming Experience (2015) to update prices, I noticed that prices on these flagship, incredibly high-end TV sets had already fallen drastically within a matter of about 4 months.

Just how drastically?

The price of LG Electronics 65UB9200 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz Smart LED TV, for instance, has dropped from $3,999 to $1,799 (on Amazon, at least). That’s a 55% decrease since January when I wrote that original Ultra HD TV post.

It’s something to celebrate and cringe at all at the same time. Yes, it’s cheaper to buy an amazing, top-of-the-line luxury TV right now, but in another 4 months will you look back and think, “I should have waited!” because the price has halved again? Of course this has always been the case with TVs.

I popped into Best Buy the other day (I hardly ever go in there anymore—man, it looked like a ghost town) and was amazed at how cheap you can get a nice, thin HD tv these days. I mean you can get a 50″ Samsung HDTV for $599!

I wonder what loses it’s value faster: a new car you drive off the lot or a new 4K TV you take out of it’s box.

Overall though I’m pretty happy that prices are falling so steeply. It just means more people can get better TVs and enjoy DailyTekk’s upcoming HD video content on them 🙂
