Instead: an app that helps non-billionaires change the world

Hey, I’m Chris. I wrote this article and I’m also the founder and Editor of DailyTekk. Lets connect on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube. Check back daily!

Bill Gates does a lot to try to improve people’s lives around the world. But you’re not Bill Gates. Neither and I. Yet we still want to make a difference in the world. We want to help people and we want to help ourselves. Thanks to a new app called instead, this is easier than ever before.

instead is an app that offers people options. For instance, coffee… make your own coffee a few times instead of buying an expensive cup at Starbucks and put the difference toward helping another person get clean water—or—go about your life pretending like nothing and nobody else really matters and buy yourself that expensive Starbucks latte.

The whole concept revolves around accepting small donations (usually around $3-5) and putting them toward good causes via partner organizations. Transparency alert: instead takes 5% for itself. In reality, that’s quite reasonable (just check into Charity Navigator’s guidelines for grading nonprofits).

I LOVE the idea of micro-donations and micro-philanthropy. I’m glad to see this space heating up. Lot’s of small donations can have just as big of an impact on the world as a few large donations.

This app benefits the downloader as well: I’m a firm believer that we as humans are happier when we help other people rather than living selfishly.

This is an app worth spreading the word about.
