Obsessions is a series that asks the engineers and designers behind your favorite tech products to hand-pick their favorite new apps, gadgets, websites and tech accessories. Today’s obsessions are brought to you by Zach Flynn, the founder and lead developer of TrackReddit.
About TrackReddit: Our service allows you to track mentions of your keyword or phrase across the entire Reddit community in real time. Brand Managers and Marketers alike have found the ability to react to mentions of their company/product, the moment it’s posted, to be extremely beneficial.
App: I can’t go more than a couple days without firing up RunKeeper. The app really keeps me motivated with my outdoor activities like hiking, jogging, or even a quick dog walk. It tells me stats about my workout as I’m doing it, and allows me to compare it to my past runs on the same route. It’s a great way to challenge yourself and motivates you to set new goals.
Gadget: Recently I picked up a GoPro and can’t seem to put it down. I admittedly don’t live the most active, adrenaline-packed lifestyle; but I still find plenty of uses for the thing. It shoots great video, takes clear high-res pics, very robust and extremely user friendly which is why I would have to say this is currently the favorite gadget I own.
Website: Extremely original, I know, but Reddit is my go-to source of daily entertainment. However, I can’t stand most of the default subreddits. When I took the time to really create my own custom homepage made up of only my favorite subreddits, it improved my browsing experience ten fold.
Accessory: The good old fashioned Thumb Drive. I’m not big on new tech/accessories. In fact if you saw the condition of my laptop you would shed a tear. But I have made a habit of quickly backing up all my important files to my thumb drive and it has already saved my a** on numerous occasions.
Random: If you have to write a paper or do a school project on a subject you don’t know much about, let me introduce you to Cunningham’s Law. Cunningham’s Law states “The best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question, it’s to post the wrong answer.”, and yes….It works quite well.
Image: This is my chameleon, his name is Skittles. He’s really the brains of the operation. When I get frustrated with my work, hanging out with Skittles definitely helps me chill out.
