I look forward to making this post each Friday because it’s exciting to discover the latest, greatest tech stuff (even for a tech writer like myself, who you might think would get burned out on this stuff after several years). This week saw the announcement of a really interesting and different TV, a new e-ink smartwatch and LOTS more. This week is a little light on apps but that’s simply because there were too many pieces of drool-worthy hardware out there. Don’t forget to check out last weeks roundup of the best new gadgets, apps and tech startups to you’re all caught up!
Samsung Serif TV
The era of always thinner TVs probably isn’t coming to an end anytime soon, but Samsung has at least taken a step in another direction with the launch of the Serif TV. It’s meant to be seen and make a design statement and from the side it looks like a capital I; that means you can use the top for storage or as a shelf to display things. It’s really thinking outside the box which is what is so great about it. It will come in a UHD version as well as two smaller, lower resolution options.
Revo SuperSystem WiFi Speaker
I’ve been a fan of the Revo Super series since I first tuned on a SuperConnect (check out my recent thoughts in this week’s video: 7 Speaker Showdown: What’s the Best Wireless Speaker?). The SuperSystem is Revo’s flagship SuperSeries speaker. It’s a Spotify Connect enabled speaker, comes in multiple gorgeous colors and finishes, lets you listen to DAB/+, FM and Internet radio stations, lets you wirelessly stream audio from your PC or Mac and comes with UNDOK technology for multi-room listening. Well get a review posted in about 30 days as soon as we get our hands on one.
Pebble’s back with it’s second release this year called the Pebble Round. It’s the company’s latest vision of an e-ink powered smartwatch. The benefits of e-ink displays include always-on capability (no need for screens to wake up or sleep), a much longer battery life and more. Sure, you won’t get amazing resolution, but the Pebble Round is a nice option to have in an increasingly crowded smartwatch market.
Instant Lifelogging App
Instant is a new app that aims to show you your life in a dashboard. While it can’t monitor and show you data on EVERYTHING you do, it does track quite a lot in order to give you some insight into how you’re living. At launch it shows you where you’ve been, what apps you use the most, how long/much you use your phone on a daily basis and your fitness activity… all in one convenient place.
ivee Voice Multiroom Voice Assistant
ivee Voice is an Amazon Echo-like device that, rather than being geared toward the Amazon ecosystem, allows you to interact with your smart home using just your voice. With this device you can control everything from Hue lights to Uber rides to Nest and Logitech products (and lots of things in-between).
Droponic looks like an awesome way to grow fresh greens in your house. This hydroponic technology uses 70% less water to grow food up to 50% faster and pesticide free. Imagine being able to harvest your greens RIGHT before you eat them: it doesn’t get any fresher than that and the Droponic system may be the smartest way to grow them. The app lets you track your plants, test lighting conditions and more.
Angee Automated Home Security System
There are a lot of cool home security system on the market (see our recent roundup: The 5 Best, Coolest DIY Home Security Systems You Can Buy NOW) but there’s a new player in town and it looks pretty awesome. Angee is a completely autonomous home security system that provides a full 360° view of your home when you’re away, check people entering your home via Voice ID, includes a motion sensor, provides notifications and much more.
Sound of Power Bust Speakers
Sound of Power just came out with a speaker embedded in a bust of Vladimir Putin. Envisioned in Russia and handcrafted in Sweden, these works of art aren’t just speakers: they make a statement. Namely, Vladimir Putin never sounded so good (think about it). They come in a limited edition and we’ll have a review coming out for you very shortly.
Hoverboard Electric Skateboard
People are hungry for awesome and new electric skateboards. How do I know? Our recent roundup of the best electric skateboards is going crazy in terms of traffic. I’d be super interested in trying out this new Hoverboard which is a one-wheeled electric skateboard that, from certain angles, looks like it’s actually hovering.
So wouldn’t it be cool if you could have a second display on the back of your iPhone? Well that’s essentially what you’ll get with the Oaxis InkCase which is an iPhone case with an e-ink display on it’s back. With it you’ll be able to save precious battery life on your iPhone by using the InkCase to check things like the weather, your todo list, stock prices, your daily activity and steps and more. You can use it to read, set personalized wallpapers and more.
