When you take a trip, whether it’s for business or a vacation trip, there is always the chance that things can go missing. When you’re in unfamiliar surroundings, a lot of things can happen. One example is when you park in a large parking lot at an amusement park or other huge attraction, or even a large supermarket, and when you return, you forget where you parked your vehicle. Another example is when you misplace something, such as your wallet, passport, or other important documents. You may give something important to one of your friends to hold, and then forget that you gave it to them, only remembering it after they have walked or drove away. You can lose many other things on a trip, such as your camera, laptop, tablet, fishing or camping gear, etc. Luckily, there is a simple, yet unique way to keep up with all of these things: Beacons and Find My Stuff app.
What are beacons?
Beacons are tiny transmitting and tracking devices which can be easily placed and hidden on almost any object. The beacons work by communicating with a smartphone app called Find My Stuff. The smartphone app tracks the distance between the smartphone and the beacon, and when a specified distance between the two is reached, the smartphone lets out a loud alert. This distance can be reached wither by the object with beacon moving away from the smartphone, or the smartphone moving away from the beacon. Find My Stuff app supports many models of Bluetooth Beacons like Estimote, RadiusNetwork Beacons, Trackr, G-tag, Jaalee.
How to keep up with your stuff using beacons
For instance, if you set your wallet down on the counter to pay, then start walking away without it, your smartphone will alert you once you have reached a specified distance (such as 5 feet, 10 feet, etc.). If someone steals your camera, your smartphone will alert you as soon as the camera has reached the specified distance away from you, so that you can take immediate action instead of finding out later that your item is missing. You can keep up with your children while you are on a trip by putting a beacon on their clothing, and you will be alerted if they reach the specified distance.
Can’t remember where you parked your car? Find it using beacons. You can track your beacons directly from the Find My Stuff app, as it has a built-in map.
Don’t let your next trip become a disaster, keep up with your stuff by using beacons and the Find My Stuff app.
Beacons for everyday life
Beacons are not just for trips, you can use them in your everyday life as well. You can keep up with any item (or person) by using beacons and the Find My Stuff app. Want to know what time your teenager is coming home at night? Put a beacon on their car. Worried about someone stealing your stuff? Put a beacon on it. Keep up with anything you own by tracking it using beacons and the Find My Stuff app.
