I’m not sure if you guys know this but every year for the past 5 years I’ve made a list of the top 100 websites I think people should check out. It’s always super popular and so this year I thought I’d expand a little into the realm of podcasts. So I made a top 100 podcasts of 2016 list and I’ve curated that down to my top 10 for this video.
Starting things off at #1 in my list is the Slack Variety Pack. For anyone who works in an office this podcast is a must. It’s interesting and entertaining and one of the few podcasts I actually try to catch every single episode of.
My second favorite podcast is Design Matters from Debbie Millman. It explores the world of creative culture and since I have a background in design I find it fascinating. But no matter what your job is, you can add some creativity to your life by learning from writers, artists, musicians and other luminaries.
I’m sort of surprised that this made number 3 on my list, but I really enjoy Here’s The Thing with Alec Baldwin. He talks to some very interesting people I’d never come into contact with otherwise including lots of people who are frankly a lot older than me. The Hollywood insights are fascinating to me as a YouTuber as well.
I stuck Millennial at number 4 on my list because it’s full of useful content I wish I had known in my 20s. You can find out things like how to buy a cheap car that’s not a dud and get insight into things like working for someone else or being your own boss. It’s good stuff.
At number 5 is probably one of the better known podcasts out there but I included it here because it had to be mentioned: The Black List Table Reads. It’s a podcast that takes the best Hollywood screenplays that haven’t turned into movies yet and has real actors read the parts to make a movie for your ears.
At number 6 I’ve got The Art of Manliness. I’ve been a fan of the blog for a long time but I’ve recently been getting into the podcast as well. It’s useful, non-raunchy content for guys and because of that it’s a very rare breed.
On the lighter side of things is Ear Biscuits from internetainers Rhett and Link which comes in at number 7. If you just want to laugh more than this is the podcast you need in your life. I’m not 100% sure this is still going, but the archive will keep you entertained for a long time.
Here’s another well known podcast that certainly deserved a mention in the top 10 and that’s the Nerdist which comes in at number 8. It’s everything geeky you maybe have no-one else to talk to about. The thing is I don’t really listen to this, but the episodes and shows are so well produced it landed here anyways.
At number 9 is Dorm Room Tycoon. If you run a business or are thinking about starting one, this is a must listen. I really appreciate the insights and the format and learn a lot from some really incredible entrepreneurs.
Okay, rounding out this list is… drumroll please… Intelligence Squared. I admit I was never into debates or anything like that basically my whole life but that changed when I found this podcast. It explores two sides of big, important topics and can really expand your mind. Don’t be lame… give it a try.
