This is one truly useful startup. TaskRabbit works like this: you post a task on the website for free, people known as “TaskRabbits” (background-checked for safety) bid to be assigned to your task and you pay them once the work is done. I hope this comes to Denver soon, but for now the service is available in the following cities: Boston, San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, Chicago, Las Angelas, Austin, Portland, Seattle and San Antonio. As you can imagine, safety for TaskPosters (as the site calls them) is paramount.
According to the site, “each and every TaskRabbit goes through a multiple step application process which includes an essay, video interviews and a background check before being selected to run tasks.”
So what kinds of tasks are people posting on TaskRabbit? Some of the more popular tasks include: delivery, house chores, office work and handyman jobs. Other tasks include yard work, graphic design, pet care and tutoring.
